The performance took place in the Red Warehouse in Pančevo, as part of the closing event for the 11th Biennial of Visual Arts.
M & P positioned themselves at opposite ends of a long, dimly lit warehouse. The room was illuminated solely by the blue light emitted from hand-held battery lamps placed on the floor at its center. Both M & P had their eyes covered with black pieces of fabric. The performance commenced with Bach’s cello music. Slowly and deliberately, M & P began to walk step by step toward one another. They concentrated deeply on maintaining their balance, endeavoring to follow an invisible line of light on the floor. They extended their arms for support and stability. On several occasions, they came close to losing their balance and had to employ their limbs to regain it. The music gradually transitioned to an electronic composition, performed by a musician using a live computer music program that synchronized with the performers’ unsteady progress. In the middle of the room, M & P made physical contact with each other, freed their eyes from the blindfolds, retrieved the hand-held battery lamps from the floor, and extinguished the light. Simultaneously, the musician ceased playing, bringing the performance to a close.
The performance symbolically represented the challenges faced by M & P as they approached each other, overcoming the internal barriers that impeded their balanced progression.
